CONSTRUCTION RODS

A construction rod, commonly known as a rebar (short for reinforcing bar), is a steel bar or mesh of steel wires used as a tension device in reinforced concrete and masonry structures to strengthen and hold the concrete in compression.

Key Description & Features:

  • Material: High-strength carbon steel (often with a deformed surface for better bonding with concrete).
  • Shapes:
    • Round bars (plain or deformed with ribs, lugs, or indentations).
    • Available in coils (for smaller diameters) or straight lengths.
  • Standard Diameters: 6 mm to 50 mm (commonly 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32 mm).
  • Grades:
    • Fe415, Fe500, Fe550, Fe600 (numbers indicate yield strength in N/mm²).
    • TMT (Thermo-Mechanically Treated) bars are most common due to high strength and ductility.
  • Surface: Deformed (ribbed) for enhanced grip with concrete; plain rods used in specific applications.
  • Length: Standard 12 meters (40 ft); custom lengths available.
  • Corrosion Resistance:
    • Epoxy-coated, galvanized, or stainless steel variants for marine/exposed structures.

Applications:

  • Foundations, columns, beams, slabs.
  • Bridges, dams, highways.
  • Pre-stressed concrete elements.
